Some of you may know that I worked for a dermatologist for about 4 years. I learned so much from that doctor, and I plan to go into dermatology as a physicians assistant one day. It’s literally the most passionate I’ve ever been about something. I’ll be posting a few things I’ve learned from her, as well as things that I have used/experienced in the past. With that being said, of course I am not an MD, I am just writing from experience and giving my input.
Today, I want to talk about face washes. I’ve found that a good face wash can work wonders for your skin if you choose the correct one for your skin type.
If you find that you are mostly dry and craving some type of moisture, I would recommend using a creamy cleanser. The first one I would recommend is the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser. This cleanser feels moisturizing in your hands. It has ceramides in the product that will help your skin maintain the best barrier to outside environments. As well as, hyaluronic acid to maintain moisture. The liquid itself can be a little thick, so if you aren’t a HUGE fan of that, consider the CeraVe Hydrating Cleansing Bar. This bar is the same ingredients in a different form. It also will produce more bubbles than the liquid will. So if you’re a fan of bubbling face washes, I would recommend going with this one. Neither cleanser has a scent, which is good for dry skin since it’s less irritating.
You can find CeraVe products just about anywhere. From your local drugstore or your local grocery store. Don’t forget to print off your CeraVe coupon. You can SAVE $2! The coupon can be found on either link. Just click “Get Coupon” on the page, and it’ll direct you to another link that will allow you to print the coupon.
Second, if you find that you are more oily throughout the day… I would recommend using a foaming cleanser. My ALL TIME FAVORITE foaming cleanser is the Aveeno Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser. I’ve been using this cleanser for over a year now, and I love it! Anytime I feel like my face is producing too much oil, I use this baby! The difference is that the foaming agents are a little more drying than a creamy thick cleanser. The active ingredient in this cleanser is salicylic acid. IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO THIS, DO NOT USE IT!!!
Keep in mind that if using a foaming cleanser while using other products such as retin-a or retinol, can dry you out even more. If you are wanting to introduce this product in conjunction with your anti-aging products, try just using it Monday, Wednesday, Friday and increase as tolerated. It’s a lot easier to increase use and tolerate it properly than to use it every day and break out, then have to start all over.
If you’re like me and have a problem with BOTH oily and dry skin, I would alternate a foaming cleanser with a brightening/creamy wash. If I find that my face starts getting dry due to weather change or something, I switch to using the Aveeno Positively Radiant Cleanser. This cleanser smells so dang good! Not only is it a cleanser, but it also helps even skin tone. The active ingredient in this wash is actually a soy bean. Soy is also found to improve skin texture. Once my skin is back to normal and no longer dry, I switch back to my Aveeno Foaming Cleanser. As you may know, Aveeno products can also be found at local drugstores or grocery stores.
The CeraVe products were very highly recommended by my dermatologist, but the Aveeno products are products that I use day in and day out! Also I would like to point out to ALWAYS wash your hands before washing your face. This will prevent the spread of bacteria from your hands to your face.
Your skin will tell you what to do if you listen to it. Good skin only begins with a face wash. We are just getting started. You are beauty. Beauty is you.
